First off, I want to confirm that this case fits the 500GB Archos 5. It doesn't say anywhere here and so I actually emailed I-nique to confirm. While it did take 3 days for a reply (to be fair I emailed them on a Sunday) they did reply, so their support is there and answering emails. That gives them a thumbs up from me there. Let me also add that I would've opted for the cheaper case by Oveo with free screen protector, however I needed the case fast and this is the only case here that can be sent with Amazon Prime.
As for the case itself, its quite nice. For a mobile gadget case, the leather is very good. Soft and supple leather is used and its a joy to hold. The case is made with attention to detail. From the way that it has the ports accessible, to the nice kickstand, to the stylus slot, and to the included cleaning cloth. Just to be clear, with this case, you can attach accessories (I have tried the battery dock, HDMI dock and DVR dock) without a problem. I think that this case was designed carefully with the goal of not interfering in the operation of the Archos5 in anyway.
There is one thing that is really neither a plus or a minus, as its kind of a bonus, and that is the little headphone winder thing. Let me first say about this that I think its a great idea. However, I agree with the other reviewer, overall its implemented poorly. The way it works, any headphones that have a thicker cable (such as my Sure SE530s or my UE Triplefi 10s) doesn't fit. My Klipsch S4, however, fit fine. That is one obvious problem, but the real killer is that its a huge lump on the back of your device. It makes the device impossible to put in a pocket or even to put on its back. If you use it, you have to lay the device on its front all the time. Besides adding what feels like 30% more bulk to the device, it makes the device unwieldy. Like the other reviewer here, I have opted not to use it. Its a shame though as I like the idea of it.
Now, I have to talk a bit about the negatives and there are some. In my star rating I have rounded up but if I could I would've given it 3.5 stars. First, the dual latches are a pain. The front of this case closes with two straps. One short one on the bottom that is magnetic and a much longer one that is also magnetic and wraps around the right side. This makes it a 3 step process to open (unlatch side, then middle, then open) and close. This seems unnecessary and is a big pain when all I want to do is skip a track. I've opted to let sound quality take a hit and use a bluetooth AVRC to avoid this hassle. The second problem is the side, its exposed. I understand why this is though. Its so that the Archos 5's kickstand can be accessed if you so choose. However, having about 1/6th of the device's back and and entire side exposed (except for the tiny part that is covered by the side strap if the front flap is closed) kind of defeats the purpose of a case, in a way. I question this design decision (as I noted above, I think this company's attention to detail means that this was a design decision), as there really is no need to have the Archos 5 kickstand available since the case provides a great kickstand on its own. Lastly, while I liked the inclusion of the cleaning cloth, I could not fit it in the pocket. I expect that is because my case is still quite new (2 weeks in use), but by the time the pocket loosens up so I can fit the cloth in there, I will most likely have forgotten about it already.
Would I buy this case again? I don't know. I really like the leather and the port accessibility. However, I have no other case to compare it to. If there is a case out there that I can attach accessories to the Archos with the case on like this one, and does a better job of covering the device and less inconvenient front flap, I'd probably be willing to sacrifice the quality of the leather and choose that one instead.
Would I buy an I-nique case again? For sure. I am quite happy with this company. Clearly they pay attention to detail, they reply to emails and they use quality materials.
