What people find confusing about adapters are which male/female sides they need for their cable that they want to adapt. Just remember, male goes inside female (or, female is on top of male :).
USB 2.0 A to Micro B Female / Male Adaptor means:
1) The adapter's USB 2.0 side is female and connects to a male cable (male cables can plug directly into your computer's USB port).
2) The adapter's Micro USB side is male and connects to a female port (digital camera, MP3 player, smart phone, etc.).
3) So, if you have a USB cable that can plug into your computer on both ends, it's a male/male cable and this adapter is for you. One end of the USB cable plugs into your computer, the other end plugs into the adapter, and the adapter plugs into the device.
